Mission Statement

Athletics is one of the elements of the comprehensive education Veritas Academy seeks to instill within her students. In addition to providing a Christ-centered, competitive, and instructional athletic environment, it is Veritas' intent to provide students with the opportunity to develop physically and spiritually by competing against athletes from similar schools.

Jim Comer Athletic Director and Assistant Volleyball Coach Jim has helped coach the girl's volleyball team since 2010 and in 2012 accepted the role of Athletic Director for Veritas Academy.  As the father of three children that have been a part of Veritas Academy and its athletic programs, Jim has seen first-hand the character-building opportunities that participation in athletics provides.  He is excited about helping grow the Veritas athletic programs in the coming years. Jermaine Cooper High School Boys Basketball Head Coach Jermaine has coached the boy's basketball team since 2010 and in 2011 took over as the Veritas Academy Athletic Director.  He served as an assistant coach with The Ohio State University's club team and Veritas Academy. Jermaine is from Youngstown, Ohio, where he played four seasons for The Rayen High School. While playing three seasons with OSU's club team, Jermaine earned his Bachelors in Communication Technology in 2009.  You can listen to a podcast interview with Coach Jermaine on our blog.

Lauri Narem Girl's High School Volleyball Head Coach Lauri has coached girl's volleyball since 2010. She played junior varsity volleyball at Simsbury High School in Simsbury, CT and also at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts. Several years later she began playing beach volleyball tournaments with a group out of Baltimore, MD. She played as a sub for a very short term with the USVBA B team in Maryland. Lauri is married to Brian Narem; they have four children.

Derek Zaffini Middle School Boys Basketball Head Coach Derek has coached the Veritas middle school boy's basketball team since 2011. He is a former Veritas academy student athlete and alumnus, graduating in 2009 (Click here to watch a video of his basketball skills). Derek was a member of the very first Veritas high school basketball team.  In his freshman year of college he played basketball at Shawnee State University and is currently a student at Ohio State University.
