Veritas Academy FAQs

You will find many of the most common questions parents ask about Veritas. Should you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.

General

Is Veritas Academy associated with any particular denomination or church?

Veritas students come from a variety of Christian backgrounds and churches. The school does not receive funding from any denomination, church, or ministry organization.

Is Veritas Academy a non-profit organization?

Yes, we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit. All donations beyond tuition costs are tax deductible.

When can I enroll my child at Veritas Academy?

Students may be enrolled at any time during the school year, but some evaluation and assessment testing may be needed to determine placement level.

Homeschooling

Is Veritas Academy a homeschooling co-op group?

No, Veritas Academy is a private school that comes alongside homeschooling families to help them provide their children with a quality classical Christian education.

Do only children from homeschooling families attend Veritas Academy?

Many of our students come from homeschooling families, but students do come to Veritas from a public or private school as well. Once enrolled, students are considered to be homeschooled and parents must be leading the child's education and meet all state legal requirements. Homeschooling parents are required by law to notify their local public school superintendents of their intent to teach their children at home.

What if I've never homeschooled before?

Homeschooling requires a high level of parental commitment and involvement, even more so if the child is young. While you are responsible for the oversight of your child's education (i.e. completion of assignments and homework, proctoring exams, purchasing texts, etc.), Veritas exists to support families like yours and provide structure and accountability for the courses in which your child enrolls.

University Model

Do students attend classes every weekday?

Students attend classes at the Veritas Academy campus two or three days per week, depending on the courses taken. Students complete weekly homework five days per week, including teacher-directed assignments and exams. We follow a university model of education that teaches your children time management and study skills that will help them tremendously should they further their education. See our class schedule

Is there a minimum course load a student must take?

Students may enroll in as few or as many courses as their schedules will allow. Students are either considered full-time or part-time depending on the number of courses they take. Discounted tuition is offered to full time students, and they are also given priority if classes reach their enrollment limits. Visit our admissions section

How much does it cost to attend Veritas Academy?

Attire

Are uniforms required for students?

Yes, we have a uniform policy. Details on the policy are covered in the Parent-Student Handbook and are available from our school office. There are several educational apparel stores in the local area that offer affordable prices. For a full list of requirements, visit Educational Outfitters.

College Credit Plus (CCP) Program

Are students who attend Veritas Academy eligible to participate in Ohio's College Credit Plus program?

Yes, we have had many students who have qualified to take college-level courses at no cost through the state’s College Credit Plus program. This program gives nonpublic school students in grades 7-12 the chance to earn high school and college credit simultaneously by taking courses at participating Ohio colleges or universities. Tuition is free if your student takes classes at a public college. There may be modest fees for private college credit.

Special Needs

My child has special needs that require an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Does Veritas Academy offer this?

As a small, private, Christian school supplementing the education of homeschooled students, Veritas is not equipped to provide for the needs of special needs children. Homeschooling families may seek assistance from the public schools to develop an IEP for their children, but Veritas is not equipped or required to comply with the IEP requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
